The history of Andafiavaratra dates back to the reign of the first RANAVALONA (1828-1861). RAHINIHARO, one of its prime ministers, made the acquisition of a large compound located just to Andohalo 200 meters from the Queen's Palace and clinging to the slope. He divided later this quarter into three parts each for those of his descendants who were to succeed him.

In 1872, during the reign of RANAVALONA II, a missionary architect William POOL, built this imposing building with glass dome on the ground, pour le premier Ministre Rainilaiarivony, famous for having married successively three queens to further consolidate his power.
