Capital of the province of Toamasina, Tamatave or Toamasina in Malagasy language is on the east coast of Madagascar. It is distant 353 kilometers northeast of the capital, Antananarivo is connected by the RN2. Despite the high humidity that prevails through its vast forests, it is the second largest city in the red island and is home to the largest port in Madagascar.

Although the sea bordering the city of Tamatave is not too recommended because of its strong waves and the nearby port, it remains a popular tourist resort of island natives and foreigners. It is located 95 km before arriving at Tamatave and the resort is home to a site not to be missed : Lake Rasoabe – The beach of Foulpointe : located about 60 km north of Tamatave, it is the most popular around the city. It offers a beach with a calm sea as its coral reef retains strong waves off the beaches. The reef can be visited by attending it on board small local boats. The village also houses the famous fort Manda King Radama I, which dates from the early 1800 – La plage de Mahambo : it is 95 km north of Tamatave is especially popular with amateur surfing or kiteboarding
Andasibe-Mantadia National Park is dedicated to the protection of the largest lemur of Madagascar : le Indri-Indri.
